I feel like all of us mamas have a love-hate relationship with Instagram. I have polled my friends and they spend from 1 to 4 hours daily on Instagram on average. I also asked them what was the most annoying thing about other people’s behaviors on this social media network, and here are the answers I got summed up. I might have added a few points myself.
- Judgy people (me judging the people who do the 34 things below doesn’t count, naturally;)
- People who ask for opinions in comments and then call me judgy if I disagree with them
- People who restrict comments
- When quick response emoji thing is not coming up for someone’s stories (not sure if it’s their fault, but still)
- Perfection
- People who pride themselves in inability to take a decent photo (and call it #reallife)
- People who follow to unfollow
- People who unfollow. Period.
- People who are mad at me for unfollowing them after they didn’t follow back
- People who are so mad that they block me for unfollowing (Goodness, get a life)
- People that follow 7456 and didn’t follow me back. Thanks, so you’re saying that my account is worse than 7456 accounts?
- People who DM me to follow them back
- People who say “I showed your account some love. Please return”. Some love it is.
- Guys who DM a mom account “Hello”. Like what are you trying to say?
- Even worse: guys who DM a mom account “You have a nice daughter” Grrrr…
- People who post 3 grainy tungsten-lit pictures on their couch and get a ton of likes. Of course, mostly I envy them.
- People who post a dark selfie without a caption and expect me to comment. Shouldn’t you at least put more work in your caption than you expect people to put in their comment for you?
- When people dedicate a whole post to explaining for how they are mad at some of their followers for saying so-and-so.
- When people dedicate a whole post to explaining for how they are mad at some of their followers for saying so-and-so and then end with “If you think your comments bothered me, puh-lease, get a life. I’m so much better than worrying about this nonsense”.
- Toddlers wearing fake Gucci
- Toddlers wearing real Gucci!
- When they didn’t tag the store so I can’t tell if Gucci is fake or real
- When someone’s 4 year old is better dressed than me on my good days
- When someone’s 4 year old is pictured in an outfit that isn’t color coordinated
- “Married to my soulmate” in bio
- Baby second hand accounts referred to as “Preloved” clothing. Ugh, so “feathery stroker-ly” (you must let me know if you get this reference)
- Describing yourself as “Influencer” in bio
- *AD* in bold at the beginning of the caption by an account that is way small to be getting paid for ads
- *AD* in bold at the beginning of the caption by an account that is super proud to finally have gotten a paid ad
- People with 19k followers who refer to themselves as “celebrity” in an initial DM
- People who give me a shoutout on their stories and then DM that I have to do the same for them “cause that was the rules of their game”.
- People who don’t share my shoutout for them on their stories.
- People who don’t say “Thank you” for a feature.
- People who DM me “Thank you for a feature” instead of commenting on the post.
- People who respond to my comment on their post “I love your pictures too.” Ummm, can you comment that on my photo rather than on yours?
- When I see the most perfect thoughtful flattering comment on my iPhone notifications (finally!) only to read “@abc123 liked your comment…”
- People with 25 stories of them talking to the camera
- People who respond with criticism of how I talk to the camera (your 3rd tooth on the right side is chipped)
Care to add something to the list? Disagree or agree with one of the points? Please comment!
P.S. I am definitely guilty of a thing or two here. Since there are a lot of conflicting statements that cancel each other out I hope you understand this post is mostly intended for a good laugh and not for to criticize anyone’s account.
